Mother Teresa once said, “We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.” For all you know, the recipient of your little gesture of happiness and warmth could have been having a bad day and all it took was that one smile to brighten up his day even by just a fraction. Also, as a bonus, you could say hi. Strike up a conversation. Talk about the weather. Communicate.
2. Give Something
Give someone something that had reminded you of him at the bookstore, or pick up an extra yoghurt bar at the 24-hour convenience store for your sister, or you could just write a simple note thanking someone for being amazing. Or…..you could just give a hug – cheap and instant and extremely warm and fuzzy.
3. Tell lame jokes
For ideas, you can refer to this post we made about a week ago: 30 Jokes That Will Leave You In Stitches
4. Call a friend and just talk
Whether it’s an old friend you kind of miss talking to, or that best friend with whom you never run out of conversations, give them a call! If they ask for the reason for the call, just say you just felt like talking, and if you’re on talking-cheesy-is-normal terms with someone, say you felt like hearing their voice. (I mean, that shouldn’t actually be considered cheesy but judging by the amount of ‘the more emotionless, the better’ sentiments in today’s society…………I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.)
5. Hold the door open for the people after you
I mean, come on. Basic courtesy, people.
6. Say “Thank you”
Again, basic courtesy. Regardless of whether or not you liked the gift, say thank you. Express your gratitude. Show people you’re thankful for their efforts, for their sacrifices, for what they have done specially for you, and for their existence.
7. Tell Mum and Dad you love them
No matter what, you are still considered underage and in-need-of-constant-spoonfeeding when it comes to your parents. So rid yourself of all those “I don’t do cheesy with them anymore”, “I’ve been calling her ‘Mother’ instead of ‘Mum’ since forever”, “it’s so weird to tell your 50-year old father that” excuses and man up (or woman up) and f*cking say it.
8. Compliment someone
Tell them their blouse looks good on them, that they look especially ravishing (or you can reduce the amount of exaggeration to your liking) that day, that they have nice hair etc. I mean, we all love being complimented.
9. Write an appreciation letter
10. Allow YOURSELF to indulge in your guilty pleasure
Make your day. Go buy that tub of Ben & Jerry’s you eye at every time you go grocery shopping. Go to that one place you have been thinking of going but have always put off. Listen to your favourite song on repeat. Do at least one thing to make yourself happy and comfortable and you.
