12 Weeks of Happiness in RGS: WEEK NUMBER ONE!

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN RGS!

For the first week of the 12 Weeks of Happiness, in line with HOMECOMING, we will be voting for our favourite places in RGS — that one place that everyone will automatically associate with this school that we have come to see as our second home! The canteen we all share, the mini-amphitheatre where we had our Saturday house practices, the Shaw Lab in J Block we used when we were in Sec 1 and the Magic Lab was too far away- these places remind us of fond, happy memories and shared experiences; a physical representation of the shared Batch 14 consciousness and the Rafflesian essence.

How do you vote?

  1. Take a photo of and/or with the place (selfies, group photos with friends, a picture of just the place are all accepted)
  2. Post the photo on Instagram and/or Twitter with the hashtag #12WOH by 2359, 2 August 2014 (Saturday).
  3. Your posts / votes will be collated and posted on our main WordPress site, Facebook Page and Instagram by 4 August (Monday)! 😀

Celebrating Happiness: The RGS Edition!

So, recently, we have been planning something reeeeally exciting in our school for our graduating batch of 2014 and IT WAS FINALLY LAUNCHED TODAY!

Here’s what it’s all about 🙂Processed with VSCOcam

Can you believe it? The Year 4 Batch of 2014 will be graduating from RGS in 12 weeks! Therefore, some of us have come together to think about how we can appreciate and commemorate our 4 years in RGS. 🙂

And we would like each and every one of YOU, from the RGS graduating batch of 2014 to be part of it!

Each of the 12 weeks will have a different theme and activities lined up for us to show our appreciation towards different people and the little things in life. These activities will then be captured and posted in “roundup posts” at the end of every week on our Facebook Page and main WordPress site.

A final post with the highlights from each week will also be put up on the above 2 platforms in the twelfth and final week, and showcased during FAM as a final, big Thank-You! 😀

Objectives of the 12 Weeks of Happiness:

  • To help the Year 4s start appreciating and commemorating their time in RGS
  • To bond over positive shared memories and experiences in RGS
  • To pass on the legacy of having a spirit of gratitude to our juniors.

Note: This means that all the submissions and other usual Celebrating Happiness posts will be put on hold for the timebeing, and instead, this site will be used mostly (if not completely) for the 12 Weeks of Happiness initiative!

What’s Your Six-Word Secret of Happiness?

six words

(Originally posted on: http://www.gretchenrubin.com/happiness_project/2010/12/whats-your-six-word-secret-of-happiness/)

Since I started my happiness project, I’ve found that when I distill an idea into a short, memorable phrase, I do a better job of remembering and following it. For that reason, I work hard to capture my ideas succinctly. Examples:

  • The days are long, but the years are short.
  • Outer order contributes to inner calm.
  • Happy people make people happy — but you can’t make someone be happy.
  • Accept myself, and expect more from myself.
  • Happiness doesn’t always make you feel happy.
  • Flawed can be more perfect than perfection.
  • Be selfless, if only for selfish reasons.
  • Make people happier by acknowledging that they’re not feeling happy.
  • Succeed by failing.
  • Be serious about play.

Along these lines, I’m teaming up with Smith Magazine, home of the fabulous Six Word Memoir. Now you can Share your six words on the secrets to happiness. How would you sum up what you’ve learned about happiness in six words (or less)? It’s a fascinating, thought-provoking exercise. I just checked out the site (again), and some recent additions include:

  • Worrying does not change a thing.
  • The cool side of the pillow.
  • Life is my canvas. I create.
  • Patronize only Mom and Pop establishments.
  • Justice, mercy, humility. Oh, and booze.
  • Plagiarize Shakespeare. Write yourself a sonnet.
  • Simple happiness growing complicated every day.
  • Be completely, absolutely, positively, totally unsure.
  • Tea, chocolate and a good book.

Lytton Strachey observed, “Perhaps the best test of a man’s intelligence is his capacity for making a summary.” The discipline of using six words helps make ideas stand out more starkly. Also, this kind of exercise is a terrific way to end the year and to head into 2011. It’s a creative, fresh way to think about yourself, your nature, and what’s important to you.
